Mely Whiting is a self-described “recovering water lawyer” with almost 30 years of experience in Colorado representing local, state and federal government as well as private entities.  She has worked for Trout Unlimited for the past 12 years, spending much of her time first fighting against Denver Water and Northern to protect the Fraser and Colorado Rivers and then working with them to fix the rivers.

Mely has recently been appointed to the Intrastate Basin Compact Committee (IBCC) by Governor Polis, is a member of the Southwest Basin Roundtable and the Southwest U.S. Forest Service Regional Advisory Committee (RAC), and is co-chair of the local group known as Learning by Doing (LBD).

Mely will give a short description of Colorado’s Water Plan, and invite perspectives from water conservation experts, aquatic biologists, Front Range water agencies and Grand County river advocates. Film clips and a Q&A will round out the discussion.

Guest Panel Presenters: Rachel Badger, Denver Water Environmental Planning Manager; Travis Bray, Denver Water Environmental Scientist; Laura Beranger, Western Resource Advocates Environmental Engineer; Jeff Drager, Northern Water Director of Engineering; Jon Ewert, Colorado Parks and Wildlife Fish Biologist; Kirk Klancke, Colorado River Headwaters Chapter of Trout Unlimited President; and Ed Moyer, Grand County Assistant Manager.
